Sustainable Sunday: Sunday Night
Twilight drops her curtain down, and pins it with a star. ~Lucy Maud Montgomery
Hope everyone had a great weekend! I am just getting back online after unplugging for the weekend. I enjoyed a weekend full of nature and my family, but couldn't start the week off without our usual Sustainable Sundays post! After searching our team's weekly threads and social networking posts, I found a few shops upcycling into the night! ;)
Here are three creations for any warm summer evening!
Hope everyone has a great week!
Thanks, Bee

Sustainable Sunday: Summertime
Happy Sustainable Sunday! Each week we search and highlight upcycled creations made from over 2,000
sustainable shops on our Upcyclers Etsy Team! Shops that are actively
upcycling and participating in our community are available for selections.
This week's theme is Summertime, which seems to fit perfectly into our three day Memorial Day weekend here in America. Memorial Day is a way to remember and honor those who have died in our nation's service. Memorial Day weekend is also the unofficial start to summer. Millions of Americans dust off their beach chairs, and dig out their bathing suits to enjoy a long weekend outdoors.
Our Upcyclers selections are perfect for the start of a summertime season of outdoor living!
Enjoy an outdoor picnic with this adorable eco-friendly lunch tote!
Serving lemonade pool side with in this gorgeous pitcher!
Attend a summer party in this pretty vintage dress!
Runner-up selections this week:
As you can see I had a LOT of beautiful upcycled items to choose from this week! Enjoy more eco-friendly creations this summer by using our team tag "teamupcyclers" when shopping on Etsy.
Enjoy your weekend outdoors!
Thanks, Bee

Wasteless Wednesday~ WEAR it Out!
We begged you not to throw out those old t-shirts a while back, now we are offering more ways to Waste~Less stuff you wear! Anyone can be more ECOnomical with their wardrobe~here's seven tips for each day this coming week to waste less!
1. Mix it up! Try changing up that tired outfit by matching it up with something else in your wardrobe, or accessorize it in a whole new way~ now that old outfit is a new outfit!
2. You can also redesign your clothing~ or as we like to say: Upcycle it! Shorten the length, add some length, give it some layers, create a patchwork creation, shred it or fringe it~ embellish it!
3. Too tight? Too loose? Too long? Got a tear or a hem that came loose? Mend it or alter it! Can't do it yourself~ have a friend, family member or local shop do it for you!
4. Hand wash your delicates and hang them to dry. It reduces wear and tear and your clothes will last longer and look better!
5.. Create a neighborhood co-op to swap clothing! Find other adults to exchange clothes with or set up a swap for kids clothing! It's a great twist on the old concept of handing it down!
6. Donate your clothes to a local thrift shop or work with a consignment shop to sell your clothes and accessories! Or have a yard sale or rent a table at a church bazaar!
7. Cut up old clothes and linens and create fabric swatches or trim pieces. We showed you how some of our Upcyclers create t-shirt yarn, you can also create quilt squares and patches or make small accessories and brooches from the material. And don't forget to cut off the buttons, embroidered designs and zippers~ they are great reusable materials too!
Great ideas, don't you think? That's the fantastic thing about upcycling~ there's no end to the creative reuse of everyday items you might have thought were trash! Even the clothes on your back! So get out there and find ways to waste less today and everyday!
Have a great Wasteless Wednesday and WEEK!

Special Giveaway: W.O.M.B. Lifestyle!
Congrats to our winner of last week's Giveaway from
Art Again by Michelle! We are excited to announce it was Sharon from
Thank you, Michelle, for supporting Upcyclers and to all of you for entering!
And now we'd like to introduce you to Dion and Eli~ the creators of WOMB Lifestyle and the sponsors of this special Giveaway!
The story of the Birth of WOMB uniquely intertwines entrepreneurship, art, and self-empowerment. As individuals, Dion and Eli each already had a passion for art, health, and education. Dion had already been active as an art teacher, and visual artist creating graphic illustrations that depicted messages of confidence and personal development. Eli had already been involved as a mentor in her community and has been creating works of fine art for years. When the two of them were married in 2009, it only made sense for these individual characteristics to accentuate.
Naturally, Dion and Eli put their minds together as a married couple to create business ideas that would utilize their passions and enrich their community. They made sure to recycle and reuse the backsides of paper to save trees during their brainstorming sessions. That is how Wisdom of Mind and Body (WOMB) was born in the Spring of 2010. Dion and Eli combined their artistic talents to create tee shirts that raised the bar of social responsibility boasting unique designs, inspiring messages, organic cotton, PVC free inks and sweatshop free labor.
WOMB Apparel represents their personal lifestyle philosophy Wisdom Of Mind and Body.
Dion and Eli created WOMB’s unique philosophy of self-empowerment by emphasizing your power to recreate and commence a personal rebirth. With only one design (Human Race), they printed a small batch of shirts and took it to the International Hip Hop Festival to test the market. Before they knew it, Hip Hop artists from all over the world were wearing their design during performances. Dion and Eli knew they had a great idea to run with.
In the next string of months, WOMB Apparel continued to create ways to provide customers with a valuable product that empowers their lives, the community, and the world.
WOMB Apparel is in the process of expanding into WOMB Lifestyle in order to incorporate the educational components that are integral in the Wisdom of Mind and Body philosophy. In celebration of their expansion they are teaming up with Upcyclers to give one lucky guy and girl an opportunity to win one of our most popular t-shirt designs – Human Race or Wisdom of Mind and Body.

Love 2 DIY on the Weekend: With Trashn2Tees!
Lets Rock! and Freezer Paper Stenciling
You are going to love this post, not just because this is such a great idea and fun DIY, but also because Jenelle's blog (where you'll find the How-to for this DIY) is a treasure trove of creative tutorials! Her shop on Etsy, Trashn2Tees, offers you a sustainable alternative for original, funky, and one of a kind fashion at affordable prices: Custom handmade clothing, reusable produce bags, totes, upcycled tee-shirt appliques, scarves, hats, gloves and more accessories~ all made from reclaimed materials.
Here's a little about Jenelle in her own words:
"Hi! I'm Jenelle. Though these days I am most frequently referred to as Mommy, I used to hold such titles as President, Waitress, College Student, Mud Bog Racer, and I even donned a big furry cat suit in high school as Suzy Stateliner- the school mascot! Between crushing cars with Monster Jam trucks, judging silly dance contests, and those other less fun household chores... I hack up clothes that have been outgrown, stained, or discarded (and I have a ton of fun doing it!) My boys inspire many of the designs, and actually, that's how this whole thing got started- have you seen the clothes out there for boys? I wanted something more than puppy dogs and footballs. I like clothes that make a statement, and I hope by rocking recycled threads- we can all encourage and inspire others to consume less and recycle more!"
We are proud to have Jenelle on our team of Upcyclers and thrilled she Loves 2 Upcycle!
And now, on to this weekend's project! With a 100% cotton tee-shirt, freezer paper, fabric paint, an exacto knife, an iron, a printer and some clip art you can find online, you can create a custom shirt!
These are adorable for little ones, but just imagine using this technique for images that could be worn by someone of any age! You could even upcycle an old tee or thrift shop find with TrashN2Tees' easy DIY! Okay~ we know you can't wait to get started so go ahead and click!
