Meet & Greet Theevasivetwat

Our featured Artist Grigoria from Theevasivetwat is from Greece, and she wanted me to let you know that English is her second language.  I think she did a great job on the interview and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I asked Grigoria a few questions and here is what she had to tell us about herself and her shop:

Tell us a little about yourself and what you sell.
My name is Grigoria Vryttia and I am an art-practitioner. I currently live and work in Athens, Greece. Yet, I have always had the urge to make utility objects as well and using re-claimed materials has always been a crucial issue. I hate disposing of materials and I keep my industrial waste to a minimum of recyclable ones. Further on, I really enjoy the astonishment on people's faces when I describe to them my sources, the look of discontempt when ever my family and partner see me collecting things they consider absolute garbage and the look of approval when they see them transformed. On Etsy.com, so far, I sell bags and jewelry. I claim to be making "queer objects for peculiar people". Since I make things from things I find every object that comes out is unique and non-reproducible.

Why did you decide to work with upcycled/recycled/repurposed/vintage materials?
Apart from all the previously mentioned I also like the occasionally post-industrial, other times whimsical, style of things produced from discarded and reclaimed materials. What's more I like the message that gets through; of seeing the potential in objects and not litter.

What is your favorite thing about running your etsy shop?
There are many aspects of my Etsy shop I really enjoy, primarily the fact that I can work from home and of course the sense of community. I really appreciate the fact that I can share my interests and work with people from all over the world. The sense of community is really rewarding.

What inspires you to create/sell what you do?
In my earliest memories I remember my self altering my clothes to adjust them to my taste or make them look like ones I wanted to have, but did not have the capacity to purchase- my family's income was very limited for a period and I envied so many things. I suppose that this put me into the habit of making my own nick-nacks. With the passage of time they became too many and I started sharing them with people who seemed to appreciate them as much as I did and so the story goes. I also appreciate the work of other people made within this high-design hand-made concept.I always start from the material I have available and find its new purpose. And when they become too many I share them.
